I'm struggling to see why this was such a breakout hit. The first film was basically a big disaster movie with solid but not overwhelming spectacle. I saw the first one in theaters and my friends and I whooped and cheered when the one guy shot his minigun at Jupiter. It was so much fun but incredibly stupid. Excited to see this one.

I don't think you can adapt a Liu Cixin book and not have it either be two hours of shots of people in lab coats describing things they're looking at off screen, or through some scientific instrument, or either super goofy and over the top. I'm glad they went with the goofy route."Let's ignite Jupiter" had me laughing out loud, I'll be sure to watch the sequel

Honestly, doesn't sound dramatically ahead of hollywood in non-credibility.I mean we have movies with F-35s losing gunfights with large apes and lizards, so a J-20 strafing Jupiter sounds about right.

I swear,the Chinese film industry is just adapting the worst aspects of American-style blockbusters and just put their own national spin on it. Remember "Wolf Warrior"? There’s not really much artistic and challenging subject matter in their movies, beyond just tons of bombastic CGI-action.

So in the distant future, the sun is going to start expanding. So in order to save the planet, they put a ton of heavy-fusion engines on one half of the planet to move it into a different solar system.
